Sutherland’s Cawsey Shield team so near
Sutherland’s under 12 junior cricket team just missed out on winning Cricket NSW’s Cawsey Shield last weekend. In the final, South Eastern won the toss and batted first. At 2 wickets down for 54 South Eastern looked to be in control but then Sutherland’s bowlers began to take wickets to have their opponents all out for 100 off 45 overs. All seven Sutherland bowlers took wickets with the best being A Roberts 3/17 and N Marciante’s 2/11. The other 5 bowlers, D Fisher, B Curtis, J Hess, L Hess and T Doyle all took a wicket each.
Unfortunately when it came Sutherland’s turn to bat the bowlers again dominated and Sutherland’s batsmen could not get a partnership going to be all out for 87 in the 49th over. Only T Doyle (14) and Fisher (11) were able to reach double figures. Still the team did very well to finish second in the very competitive competition.
Sutherland’s Super-sub Gan the Man for Sydney FC as Jets crash - profile
Having been promoted to the top side Sutherland’s young gun Brendan Gan scored the winning goal to enable Sydney FC to get back on the winner’s list against Newcastle Jets last weekend. For a match report and photos go to: http://www.sydneyfc.com/default.aspx?s=latestnews
Reece Carter has written a profile of Brendan Gan. Extracts from this profile follow.
Coming off the bench in the 73rd minute of play, Gan claimed the spotlight five minutes later when he coolly sent a neatly threaded pass into the back of the net and the Jets crashing to the bottom of the table.
“Far out, I don’t even know what happened. The ball came to me from Corica and I was a bit shocked to be in that situation so soon, I didn’t know what to do,” an elated Gan said. “I just didn’t want to stuff up, so to see the ball go into the back of the net was awesome.
“It was the best feeling; I was just caught up in the moment. When I scored I ran the wrong way and didn’t realise, it was all a bit crazy.”

Sydney FC coach John Kosmina was equally happy with Gan’s match-winner and efforts throughout the week.
“He did well when he came on, really well,” Kosmina said. “I actually considered starting him through the week but it might have been too big an occasion for a young guy.”

Perth will take on NSW in a three game set in Canberra (Friday, Saturday) and Wollongong (Sunday); while the Aces and Queensland will lock horns in Melbourne and Mildura over the same three days.
The NSW versus Perth game in Wollongong will take place from 1pm on Sunday December 14 at Fred Finch ground Berkeley. To go from the Shire region go down the F6 and then the Princes Highway.
