Multi-centurions and wicket takers in Sutherland junior cricket

With the season far from complete, there are already junior cricketers who have scored more than one century so far this season. Leading the pack is Illawong Menai 16D’s Ben Vanmidde who has scored three centuries, 141 not out, 119 and 106.

Jonathon Haslam of Engadine 14A has the top score in all competitions so far at 167 not out as well as a second century (112). Jake Purser of Caringbah 14B has the second highest score of 158 not out and has also scored a second ton (106 not out). There are 13 other players who have scored one century each with Gymea Bay 12B’s Dane Fisher (141) and Caringbah 12D(2)’s Dominic Michalak (137)  leading the pack.

27 players have taken five wickets or more in an innings so far in the season with 4 players on the honour roll twice. Blake McEntyre of Gymea Bay 16C has taken 6 wickets in an innings twice (6/9 and 6/13) as has Miranda 16B’s Nathan Eager (6/15 and 6/35). Michael Grant of Gymea Bay 16B has taken 6/33and 5/5 in matches so far this season while Scott Gordon-Phillips was also a dual performer (5/9 and 5/16). 

Leading the bowling honour board with the best individual match performances are Gymea Bay 16B’s Luke Stibbard (7/27) and Caringbah 8B1’s Finn McNamara (6/5). Also in the bowling honours list is Caringbah 14B’s multiple century maker, Jake Purser (5/17).

 Sutherland junior cricket resumes after the holiday break next Saturday January 31.

NSW defeat Vics to make Claxton Shield final

NSW Patriots have defeated the Victorian Aces in the semi-final of Baseball’s Claxton Shield last weekend.  The best of three series was played in Melbourne from January 23 - 25.

The Aces got away in the first game to win 7 - 1. NSW replied with an equally convincing reply to win 9 nil in game 2.

With the third game decider, NSW scored 3 runs in the 3rd innings and the NSW pitchers kept the Vics scoreless coming into the ninth. NSW scored another two runs in the ninth to put the game out of the Aces reach. They remained scoreless for the match to give NSW a 5 nil victory.

NSW now go to Perth to play the final series over three matches from February 6 - 8.

Wanda surf club is hosting the Sydney Water Aquathlon from March 6 – 8. Events include:
• 2.5km and 5 km fun runs
• Aquathlon
• Kids’, Enticer and Olympic Triathlons
