Jago and McPhee’s centuries in finals of Sutherland Shire junior cricket

In last weekend’s final Bosco 14E’s Chris Jago scored an imposing 176 not out in his team’s 4/312 off 50 overs against Como Jannali. His efforts were then well backed up by bowlers Liam Holt (4 wickets for 5 runs) and Michael Favaloro (3/7) to see Como Jannali all out for 119.

In the 14A final Jesse McPhee scored 104 for Gymea Bay in its total of 5/177 off 60 overs against Illawong Menai. The score was not enough however as Illawong Menai made 3/179 due to half centuries to Hayden McLean (51), Jarryd Biviano (52) and Jamie Brown (53 not out).

In an all Caringbah final in the 12D competition Caringbah 3’s Zach Bouzounis just fell short of a century scoring 96 not out before his team’s compulsory 50 overs were completed. His team’s score of 5/200 was too much for Caringbah 4 who were bowled out for 50.

Best bowling performance of the finals was Illawong Menai 14B’s Mitch Selwood who took 5/14 against Caringbah. His bowling performance enabled his side to dismiss Caringbah for 64 after his side looked in real trouble after only totaling 110 (Jake Purser 4/8).

Next best bowling performance was James Barnes’ crucial 5/28 for Engadine 16A against St John Bosco. Engadine had struggled to 9/118 off its compulsory 60 overs.  However, with Barnes’ dominant bowling performance Bosco was dismissed for 96 despite Adam Thorogood’s lone hand of 55 for Bosco. Engadine’s Ryan Almond backed up Barnes’ bowling by taking 3/13.

In other top grade matches Engadine 12A made 4/89 to pass Como Jannali’s all out for 88 (Tom Doyle 34). Interestingly Como Jannali’s innings included 3 run outs in its attempt to push up the run rate.  In the 10A, Engadine scored 9/75 (Jarrod Mazurkiewicz 22) off its 50 overs to defeat St Patricks who were all out for 36 (Dylan Smith 2/4).
