Sutherland’s Uzunlar is Sydney FC’s W-League Player of the Year
20-year-old Servet Uzunlar was named Sydney FC’s women’s W-League Player of the Year at the Sky Blues annual awards ceremony, rounding out a brilliant season for the midfielder that included winning the Premiership and Championship double and earning national team selection.
The Sutherland junior played a starring role in Sydney FC’s W-League team’s season, controlling the midfield alongside Heather Gorrick, Kylie Ledbrook, Cathrine Paaske and Julie Rydahl.
After losing the first game of the season, Alen Stacic’s side went on an 11 game unbeaten streak that included nine wins, in three of which they scored six goals and culminated in a memorable 3-2 Grand Final at Shark Park on Saturday 19 December.

Sutherland Sharks 15 and 16 teams begin well in youth football
Sutherland Sharks under 15 and under 16 Premier Youth League football sides have begun the season well. After 5 games for 4 wins and a draw in the under 16s the Sharks were in second spot only trailing the leader, Sydney United on goal difference. After 6 games in the under 15 competition the Sharks are also in second place.
The Sharks under 13 and 18 teams are both in 6th place in their competitions while the under 14s are in tenth place of the 13 team competition.
The next five rounds for the Sutherland Sharks are:
Saturday April 3 against Apia Leichhardt at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.
Saturday April 10 against Sydney United at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Saturday April 17 against Bankstown City at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.
Saturday April 24 against Blacktown City at Lily Homes ground
Saturday May 1 against Manly United at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.

Illawong Menai proved too strong for Engadine in the under 16A cricket final of Sutherland Shire junior cricket. In the title decider, Engadine batted first and despite a steady knock from Ben Dwarshuis for 63 and some late runs from number 10, Sam Hayes (16 not out) and number 11, Samuel Bleasdale (16), the side was dismissed for 135 in the 60th over. For Illawong Menai, four bowlers, Alexander Watkins, Hayden McLean, Adam Whatley and Nathan Ellis took two wickets each. In reply, Illawong Menai’s openers got off to a great start with Bryce Coles-Sinclair scoring 24 and Hayden McLean remaining unbeaten on 61. Adam Whatley scored 25 not out to ensure Illawong Menai won in the 52nd over with the loss of only two wickets.
In the final of the under 14A competition Engadine again came off second best against Gymea Bay. Gymea Bay batted first and compiled 9 for 164 off its allotted 60 overs. Ethan Grinham top scored with 58 while there were solid contributions from Stephen Curtis (25), Jesse McPhee (22) and Angus Dibley (19 not out). Best of the bowlers for Engadine was Marcus Beattie who took 3 wickets for 17 runs. Engadine struggled in its reply and was dismissed for 93 in the 50th over. Best with the bat for Engadine were Tim Berry (24) and Alex Gerbasch (23). Ethan Grinham completed a marvelous all round performance for Gymea Bay in taking 5 wickets for 24 off ten overs.
In contrast to the 14A and 16A games, Engadine took out the final of the 12A by scoring 2/92 in reply to Como Jannali’s all out for 89. Luke Entwistle top scored while Matt Wright took 3 for 12 in Como Jannali’s innings. Engadine’s Joel Almond (48) and Jarrod Mazurkiewicz (27 not out) ensured that their team passed Como Jannali’s score easily.
